  Current Trail Conditions:
The trails are closed.
Have a safe summer!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you encounter the groomer please don't ride on the trail it just packed.  It takes time for the snow to "set up" after it's packed.  If you ride on it immediately it will just crumble and the effort to groom the trail is wasted.  Please resist the urge to jump on that ribbon and tear it up.  Thanks!

We have received and installed a free Groomer Warning Beacon from Collett Electronics Ltd.  This signal can be picked up on channel 1 by all Collett 900 MHz Communicators.  The signal will sound like "Dee-Daa, Dee-Daa".
The signal indicates there is a groomer working within a half mile of where you receive it.  Even without the signal it is your responsibility to watch out for the groomer and to ride safe.
If any other club needs one of these they can contact Collett Electronics at their web site
www.collettcommunicators.com They are free of charge.

If you'd like to join the grooming staff please contact the SledMeister@iowa-snowdrifters.org

Please remember to stay on the marked trail.  Obey the signage.
A No Snowmobile sign is posted for a reason.  Do NOT drive beyond them.

If you see the groomer, give him a wave and a thumbs up but to remember to get out of their way.  They have the right of way on the trail.  Not only because they are bigger, but it is easier to get your sled unstuck than the groomer.

Please stay on the trail.  If the trail is marked in the ditch then please stay there and not ride in the adjacent field.  Just because there is no fence present doesn't mean you can ride there.

If it is permitted to ride in the field, the sign posts will be some distance INTO the field and in a line parallel to the ditch.

If the signs are at the edge of the field then stay in the ditch!

The Snowdrifters are constantly working to move the trails onto private land and exercising respect for the landowners now can help us get their permission later.

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT RIDING IN TOWNS

Please DO NOT ride on sidewalks.  The correct place to ride is between the sidewalk and the street (in the Right Of Way).  If that area is obstructed, please try to ride along the edge of the street, NOT on the sidewalk or up in the yards.

Please ride ONLY when there is adequate snow cover to avoid making a mess of things.

Thank you and ride SAFE!

683 feet to 686 feet from Sept 15th to Dec 15th.
686 feet from Dec 15th to Feb 15th.
686 feet to 683 feet from Feb 15th to Mar 15th.

The Snowdrifters are working to expand the trail system in Johnson and surrounding counties.  If you'd like to help with trail changes and additions just contact us at SledMeister@iowa-snowdrifters.org and let us know.  There are bridges to be built and trails to be cleared.  We could use your help.

SEE YOU ON THE TRAILS!

It takes a while to groom trails when you have to cut through banks like this.
The cut in the first and second pictures is over 6' high from the street.  The sign post in the third picture is 5' tall.  This is common at most intersections and crossings.  These pictures were taken in January 2008.  It got deeper later on.  What a year for snowmobiles!
